Ahmedabad, October 14 (ICC Cricket World Cup 2023): In a major upset, Pakistan was bundled out for a mere 191 runs against India in the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023.
Chasing a paltry target of 152 runs, Pakistan crumbled under pressure, losing wickets at regular intervals. The Indian bowlers were relentless in their attack, with Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah sharing seven wickets between them.
Fakhar Zaman top-scored for Pakistan with 50 runs, but his innings came to an end in the 12th over, triggering a collapse. Babar Azam, Pakistan's captain, managed only 25 runs before he was dismissed by Shami.
Earlier, India had posted a competitive 151-7 on the board, thanks to a well-paced knock of 57 from 48 balls by Virat Kohli. The Indian innings was bolstered by contributions from Shreyas Iyer and Hardik Pandya, who scored 28 and 26 runs, respectively.
The comprehensive 10-wicket victory marks India's first win over Pakistan in a World Cup match. It also brings an end to Pakistan's unbeaten run in the tournament, leaving them with a solitary victory in four matches.
The result leaves Group 2 wide open, with India now level on points with Pakistan. Both teams will be eager to secure further victories in their remaining matches to ensure qualification for the knockout stages.
