Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear Wins Re-Election

Close Race with Republican Challenger

Former Lexington mayor Robert Conway lost to Beshear 49-47%

Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear has won re-election, defeating Republican challenger Robert Conway by a margin of 49% to 47%. Beshear, a Democrat, was first elected in 2019 and is the son of former Governor Steve Beshear.

The race was closely watched as a bellwether for the national political climate. Republicans had hoped to unseat Beshear, who is seen as a rising star in the Democratic Party, but Beshear was able to hold on to his seat thanks to strong support from his base.

Beshear's victory is a setback for Republicans, who had hoped to gain control of the Kentucky governorship for the first time in over a decade. It also gives Democrats a boost heading into the 2024 presidential election.
