Rory McIlroy leads Irish Open heading into final round

McIlroy one shot clear of nearest challenger

Rory McIlroy will take a one-shot lead into the final round of the Irish Open after carding a third-round 66 at Mount Juliet on Saturday.

The 33-year-old, who is seeking a record-breaking third Irish Open title, birdied four of his first six holes and added another on the 12th to move to 15 under par.

He dropped a shot on the 16th but bounced back with a birdie on the 17th to finish the day one ahead of England's Eddie Pepperell.

Pepperell makes charge with 65

Pepperell, who started the day four shots off the lead, carded a bogey-free 65 to move into contention.

The 31-year-old, who is looking for his first European Tour title since 2018, birdied the second, fourth, 10th, 12th, 15th, and 17th holes.

He will be the main challenger to McIlroy on Sunday, but there are several other players within touching distance.

Fleetwood, Lowry, and Wallace in the hunt

Tommy Fleetwood, Shane Lowry, and Matt Wallace are all two shots behind McIlroy on 13 under par.

Fleetwood carded a 67 on Saturday, Lowry a 68, and Wallace a 69.

All three players will be hoping to put pressure on McIlroy and Pepperell on Sunday.
